Logos Oxford Adult Courses are intended for students of 16 to over 60 years of age. English is taught in real-life, communicative situations, evolving and revolving around interesting people and topics from the present-day world. The language which is taught is real, everyday, and useful, with genuine, high-frequency grammar and vocabulary, presented in an exciting and enjoyable manner through various language activities and games, lots of pair and group work, and a serious emphasis on developing speaking skills. As with all Logos Oxford courses, students' progress is constantly monitored through continuous oral and written assessment, and if problems arise, students get additional consultation hours.
The adults coursebooks which we use are the revised editions of the up-to-date Headway series by Liz and John Soars (OUP). The choice of interesting texts together with manageable and motivating tasks ensure students develop fluency, not only in listening and reading, but also in speaking. These series have a well-balanced load of linguistic input, in the forms of grammar, vocabulary and "situational" or "everyday English". The courses are accompanied by Video Activities with factual reports on topics of general interest with drama sequences that demonstrate situational language.
The first module uses the extremely practical Headstart Beginner by Briony Beaven with Liz & John Soars (OUP), a coursebook intended for busy adults and /or young adults absolute beginners who encounter a foreign language for the first time and need to learn the very basic survival English for a short period of time. After completing the first module students can only continue with the second module which takes false or near-beginners to a pre-intermediate level, and the third module that takes students from pre intermediate to a basic intermediate level. The Hyper-Intensive course designed for learners who want
to make rapid progress is short, intensive and challenging. The emphasis
is on core structures and functions needed for work-related tasks. The
syllabus thoroughly treats all language areas, which are then practiced
and recycled in different contexts.
